GOOOOOD MORNING! First one in the cubicle again and faced with my really queer and extremely odd colleague, let’s name her Cookie. (sounds like kooky, no?) Anyway, Cookie brought in a dead fish to the office yesterday and left it in a plastic bag on the table that Mel and I share. God, I swear it was UUUUBER disturbing. I mean, I was actually having my breakfast in front of the stinking thing. LOL did i mention, she has a bunch of crickets upstairs too.
Anyway, Cookie aside, school’s been pretty alright I guess, aside from the psycho kids in one class that started jumping out the classroom windows onto the corridors outside, or dancing and jumping off the tables. It was absolute pandemonium! The worst part is, nearly every member of the staff knows about this wickedly notorious class and they all seem to have no idea how to handle them. GOSH! In related news, there are classes that have kids that are equally psycho, they just don’t sit down and y’know how teachers place the naughtiest kids in the front of the class, this class has THREE! Not to mention the two little goblins stuck at the back of the class that refuse to sit down, EVER!
Well, with every job there are LESSONS:
1. teaching isn’t a bunch of roses, it ain’t all just about the idyllic pastures and the whole “children are the future of our nation” mantra. There are actually troublesome little goblins that refuse to listen to you.
2. just as there are different types of people, it takes different types of tactics to handle different kids.
In other stories, my minds been rife with worries about uni and my results in general, but I guess maybe I should stop worrying about it until the time comes. Oh well, back to more humdrum life in school. Cookie has just left our cubicle!! WHOOOTS!!
toodles, woodles and oodles of noodles!

working life has been the same old same old nearly everyday. if it isn’t photocopying something, it’s typing something, or more often than not it’s chasing kids for forms or some other random scrap of paper.
but yesterday was a new high of the many mundane things that we can do. many praises for the stapling machine breaking down just when we need it to staple a 4-page parents’ letter for every single kid in the school. WHOOPPPPEEE!!! so that left dear mel and i to manually collate and staple near 1600 copies of one bleeping letter that most kids would probably just chuck in the dark recesses of their school bags. LOL!
today however, was the first time i stepped into a classroom to relieve a teacher in her absence. first it was two periods of math with p3 and then one period of chinese with p2. there are just these kids that drive you up the wall. in the math class, a little monkey was running around class stealing everyone’s things, from comics to erasers to small whiteboards and markers. man, if i could i would have stuffed him outside class, but i know that’d only make him happier, allowing him the freedom to run like a wild chimpanzee around the campus.
slowly watching the minutes tick away doesn’t help none with boredom and i feel restless and feel the need to find something to do. but hey, let’s count our blessings that we’re not running around after the little monkeys now shall we? =)

I’m so bored right now just counting down the minutes till I can clock out of here. Melanie is gone and I’m staring at this screen in a frigid little cubicle. Ho ho ho.
Work’s been pretty ordinary and uneventful these past few days, just running up and down to the classes chasing little monsters for their ‘FAT CLUB’ forms and what not. It’s kinda humdrum, but I guess there ain’t nothing much I can do about it right now.
My brain seems to have temporarily shut down and refuses to process anything. I guess the most interesting thing that happened today was when the laminating machine got hungry and decided to literally swallow up the job that I was working on. The bright shiny plastic never escaped from the heated depths of the thing-a-majig. GREAT! we’re gonna have to pry it open tomorrow to retrieve the job from the bowels of the spicy hot dragon. =P
anyway, gonna kill time and update the other page on this little rant-space of mine, so take a look. =)

So I managed to score myself a job working as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school lately, but don’t be fooled, it doesn’t involve as much teaching as the title suggests. In fact, the teaching is more of a “Hey, we’re short of staff today, do you mind doubling up as a relief teacher?” kinda deal. But hey, I ain’t complaining as long I’m getting a bit of cha-ching.
Day One:
Clocked in early with Mel at 0715 and settled into our little hole in the wall and filled in a set of forms apparently administratively initiating us into our jobs. The lady hustling around the room and who’s most familiar to us is a tiny softspoken little lady with a scared smile on her face every time we talk to her. So fill in the forms we did and waited around, twiddling our thumbs for a good 15 minutes before anything even happened.
Finally when teachers started introducing themselves did work begin to work its way into our little hole. However, the excitement was short lived cause we quickly finished it in less that half an hour, given our fabulous training as super-efficient councillors. LOL.
I was beckoned to the fifth floor to help with some macho-man work, delivering boxes of books to various classes and sorting those big storybooks (yes, you remember those don’t you?) all in work pants. Thank goodness for the help of two of my little sikh friends that happened to have three straight free periods. They make rather interesting company too, spinning impressive stories about their cousins bribing teachers with iPhones and owning an entire road in some part of Singapore.
Dropped back in on Mel before taking a lunch break. It’s kinda lame that we can’t go for lunch together, but by that time I was too sweaty and gross to really complain. Lunch was an insanely cheap affair for a sizeable portion of cai fan and deliciously sweet watermelon juice. =D
It was back to book sorting after lunch and nearly fell asleep doing it cause my brain was just tuning out. The lady with me decided we should go round to put up some posters on character education in the classrooms after which I retreated back into our nicely air-conditioned hole in the wall.
More thumb-twiddling ensued as we semi-rotted in our little hole until we were summoned to make copies of art materials for the kiddies. Haha. Mel was crowned ‘dumb shiz’ of the day for being blur, but we went home with test copies of the art materials, for our colouring pleasure.
Day Two:
Clocked in later today cause I was supposed to stay in later to help the kiddies with their after school program. The day started with packing the mountain of art materials that we photocopied yesterday into packs. While packing, work started to flood in like an avalanche. Keying in pupils’ test scores for the OM, scanning answers for the Math HOD, counting the number of periods each teacher teaches for the VP (like what is up with that man?), laminating bug pictures for some random teacher and updating height and weight forms for the PE teacher.
Lamination was a big adventure. Our first time using the laminating machine didn’t go too well. The dumb shiz thingy decided to mess up our assignment by crinkling up the laminate and wrecking the pictures entirely. The two musketeers tried to remedy the situation by running it through the thing-a-majig again but it only made it worse. GREAT!!! Curse laminating machines.
After spending an eternity on the lamination all thanks to the dumb shiz machine, we went for lunch at 1330, all starving and grouchy. We were feeling shitty being on the bottom of the food chain and doing rather lame-o tasks, and decided to throw out the rule about not eating lunch together and commiserated over cheap canteen food.
Following lunch, I braved myself for the after school program with the kids. I ended up in a class room with about 15 P4 kids and was trying to get 4 of them through their comprehension worksheets. Man, they really don’t sit still, but I must admit that for a “not steady-pom-pi-pi teacher” like myself, I did pretty okay. Getting them to take turns reading the passage, explaining how to find answers in the passage to the questions, and more often than not answering the question ” ‘cher how you spell ____ ah?” They even had tea time after their work, with kids making cups of milo for everyone (it looked kinda icky btw) and settling down to it with a packet of biscuits each. They even get to take a shower if they want to. LOL. After some peaceful 10 minutes of silent reading, they adjourned outside for a relay race with the younger kids from the other class. By the time it was all over at 5, I could feel my ears heaving a sigh of relief away from the shouts and hoots of the kiddies.
Settling back into the little hole, I resorted to cutting up the laminated pictures to kill time before I was allowed to knock off. A friend (the one that helped score us the jobs) dropped by and offered me a lift home.
All in all, I pretty much enjoyed teaching the kiddy-winks after school today, and felt kinda good seeing the understanding wipe across their faces after I explained something. The kids aren’t all that they seem either, and it was pretty interesting getting to know a little more about a few of them. Yeah, the menial tasks aren’t exactly intellectually-stimulating, but they’re pretty okay I guess. I’m pretty easygoing I guess, but it remains to be seen how long I can continue before I pull out my hair strand by strand from boredom.
Stay tuned yo!

1st dec: prom shopping with Mel at vivocity, dear little girl got her first bikini, feel so proud =D haha. went tanning at sentosa after and got very mildly tanner but the dear girl injured her toes while tossing with me (i swear i’m dangerous =P) and her toe nails came off. YOUCH!
2nd dec: collected plane tickets for hong kong and went shoe shopping with my mum, dad and little ashley. =D
p.s don’t like tai tais that think thye own the world.
3rd dec: celebratory drinks with the 32nd at what was supposed to be timbre, but luck wasn’t on our side, so we ended up at Durty Nelly’s after a long walk. LOL.
5th – 7th dec: CLASS TRIP TO BINTAN! oh man, that was super duper uber fun! went to the beach, swam around in the pools, rainy barbecue, yummy cooking by our lovely mummy ee wen, funky singing by kaiyang, failed attempts to catch the sunrise and scaling funny rock formations. I SO WANNA DO IT AGAIN!!!
8th dec: recovery from the bintan high and prep for prom night with Mel at stage. we ended up late to prom. =/ prom itself wasn’t much, the usual program and all, but a big thumbs up to my junior for making it with her head still on. LOL. failed attempts to find a hang out spot after prom, ended up at glutton’s bay at esplanade.
9th dec: accompanied kang yu for his medical checkup at Jurong. oh lord, i actually made it on time and with my eyes open. =P haha. walked around plaza sing for a while after and got into deep shit with my mum after I got home. oh man.
11th dec: spray painting with Mel at my place. HAHA. the ambitious little girls failed in their over-ambitious attempt to spray paint a bag. LOL. headed down to orchard to get another can of spray =)
13th dec: picnic at botanic gardens with mummy, amanda, ashley and kang yu. =) ho ho ho, uber fun!!! had a fun time throwing around ashley’s little plastic capsule (y’know, the kind you get when you put a dollar in those machines and twist the knob? ) and hide and seek. =P haha.
14th dec: ADVENTURE with little Ashley. First stop, the dentist to get our teeth nice and clean. LOL. my little sister eats too many sweets, and had to get 3 fillings for a 6-year-old girl! after that it was off to the library for some intellectual stimulation and then lunch and a walk around bugis junction. topped off with a trip to the ‘magic playground’, it was a great day overall.
15th dec: trip to the national museum of singapore with my aunt, uncle, grandma and ashley. whoa! it was really fun man!! more people should really visit the musuems, they’re interactive and very interesting I must say, not the usual impression of museums that they’re stuffy and boring. =)
16th dec: another physiotherapy session for kang yu. and a nice afternoon together. =)
kinda lazy to go out today, but I have so much to do. shall get started planning for the family va-kay to hong kong and cleaning the house before i head out to meet Mel. =) take care yo!

No one can claim to have the perfect formula to making a relationship work. Absolutely no one. Each relationship is unique to itself and there’s no set rule or template to them, they just seem to happen, or sometimes even combust in your face.
I sometimes wonder to myself, as a person in a relationship, why people get themselves into them. Most of the time, they never really work out, or the people we’re with fall short of what we expect, then why set yourself up for heartbreak and tears then? Some people would just tell you out right that it’s precisely because of these reasons that they don’t get themselves into one of these things. So why are there so many people still in a relationship, and even married for that matter? I guess, it comes down to the whole “No man is an island” logic. I guess we’re all searching waiting and hoping for that one person to come along that truly understands us, and we keep trying to find that person, and possibly breaking some hearts along the way.
I was just listening to the radio tonight after a really long time and the deejay was talking about whether or not the ‘dumper’ should bear all the blame after a relationship fails. Something one caller said really struck a chord with me, and it’s that no, the ‘dumper’ shouldn’t bear all the shame, he merely had the courage to do what should have been done to save both parties from the pain and to just saying no to dragging out the pain that they both know they’re facing. Interesting no?
I would say, breaking up with a person is kinda plucking up the courage to leave the life and routines that you have become so accustomed to with your significant other.

say those four words fast enough and you’ve got a tongue-twister folks. =) i first found amusement in these 4 little words when kang yu started tripping on them the last time we went out. LOL. (yes, this post is written in your honour silly!)
it’s these 4 strange little words that had me cracking up and rolling over in violent fits of laughter on a public train 2 saturdays ago and makes me grin a little everytime i think about it. it’s not very often that i get to go out with that silly boy, but it’s really small little moments like those on the train that make me treasure them.
in the light of my dismal prelim results, these 4 words put a smile on my face and keep me going. i guess, it really doesn’t take much to make me smile, and maybe that’s why sometimes life seems a bit more fun to me, because i find the little joys in life amusing. so go on, smile today! =)
